Round table “Ukraine in the defense industry under the global financial crisis: responses to current challenges"

Round table organized by the National Institute for Strategic Studies in collaboration with the European Centre for Research in Security Studies. J. Marshall on the 14th of October 2010.

The main points of discussion at the round table were the priorities of national defense industry in terms of non-aligned status and changing foreign policy priorities of Ukraine, prospects of development of military-technical cooperation between Ukraine and its impact on the defense industry. Within the stated issues were discussed, including the following issues:

- Legal ways of improving management and vertical defense industry;

- Ways of Ukraine arms exports in the global financial crisis;

- Dynamics of world military spending by ensuring that national and coalition forces weapons and equipment under the global financial crisis;

- Impact of new security foreign policy priorities of Ukraine on the development of state military organization and defense industry;

- Directions of military-technical cooperation and scientific and technical cooperation of Ukraine in NATO and the EU, changes associated with new foreign policy priorities of Ukraine;

- Development of Ukrainian-Russian cooperation in aircraft construction, ship-and engine building and new perspectives of cooperation to other areas;

- New technical areas of cooperation of defense of Ukraine.
