EAICD began preparing for the Spring NATO Academy

to be held 13-14 of May in Dnipropetrovs'k. The project will be implemented in cooperation centers of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine under the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine.

The conducting of NATO Spring Academy in Dnipropetrovsk aims at giving objective information on the role of NATO and Ukraine in issues of international security and on teaching school and university lecturers the methods of conducting the course of Euro Atlantic integration of Ukraine. The activity is planned to be carried out within the cooperation between The Center for Euro-Atlantic Integration in DN and The Center of Euro and Euro Atlantic Integration at Cherkasy Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University

Project goals:

  • To explain the historical beginnings of NATO and the theory of creation of international military-political alliances;
  • To determine the main objectives of the Alliance as based on its functional principle;
  • To study the role and experience of foreign countries, the importance of the expansion process (the Alliance widening), the possibilities of both implementation of positive instruments and their improvement;
  • To explain the essence of NATO transformation – a process of NATO adaptation to changes in international situation;
  • To analyze reasons, preconditions and driving forces and to identify sequences of factors that triggered this transformation process; to reconstruct chronology of its main stages, their possible results and consequences;
  • To evaluate the significance of NATO transformation for the Alliance strategic planning and for further development of its international relations;
  • To clarify the notion of partnership as an important means of actual opportunity to receive an experience of integration into Euro Atlantic institutions;
  • To study the evolution of Ukraine-NATO relations as affected by transformation processes going on in the Alliance;
  • To analyze and evaluate possible alternatives for ensuring Ukraine’s national security, in particular, the extension of special NATO-Ukraine partnership without obtaining NATO membership;
  • To identify a possible specific role of Ukraine in the Alliance transformation, and the Alliance affect on Ukraine’s inner processes of restructuring the security sector;
  • To determine a complex of measures necessary to continue Ukraine’s foreign policy aimed at obtaining NATO full membership.
